The Bulmers are the ancestors of my grandmother on my father’s side.
My grandmother, Winnifred Bulmer, was born in 1897 to Daniel Bulmer of Hindpool, Lancashire and Eliza Mary Ann Taylor of Tranmere, Cheshire.
Dan’s parents were William Bulmer, born in 1850 in East Cowton, Yorkshire and Alice Brazier, born in 1849 in Sedgley, Staffordshire.
William Bulmer was the illegitimate child of Ann Bulmer. She was one of fourteen children of Thomas Bulmer and Mary Dobby from the Danby Wiske in the North Riding of Yorkshire and the family stretches back another few generations in that same area.
Alice Brazier was one of twelve children born to Edward Brazier and Mary Ann Vaughan. The Braziers were Methodists and they were originally from Cleobury Mortimer in Shropshire. Many of the Braziers were shoemakers.
Eliza Mary Ann Taylor was born in 1880 to John David Taylor of Pensnett, Worcestershire and Eliza Turner of Penoney, Worcestershire.
Eliza’s parents were Emmanuel Turner and Winnifred Caulfield/Corfell. Winnifred was from Roscommon, Ireland and her father’s name was Lawrence Corfell. Emmanuel was from the Turner family of Dawley Magna in Shropshire, which is about 20 miles north of Cleobury. Many of the Turners were in coal mining and Emmanuel was a sinker in Kingwinsford, Staffordshire.
John David Taylor’s parents were John Taylor and Mary Ann King. John was born in Dadlington, Leicestershire but Mary Ann was born in southern England in Maidstone, Kent. The King family stretches back several more generations in that area. Most were farmers.
